Overview at Jinnah University

It is an old thought that any place exclusively for Ladies is a peaceful and proper and for Gent, a messing place. But the things have been reversed. No place in this world is peaceful now.

Come, today I will take you to the world of Ladies, where there is no sign of Boyishness. It is our JINNAH UNIVERSITY FOR WOMEN. This is the place where you would experience all the incidents in one single life. Here a girl when enters it, would be blank, but she gets confidence after spending just a month here. She would be incapable of being politics, but this venue can make her a good journalist without any degree like me.

Let me show you some of the beautiful places of this place.

Toilet or a chalking wall?:

Apologizing for beginning with the toilet, in all over the world this is the place where you can get fresh by looking at yourself in the mirror and can get satisfied with it. But in this place you can never get fresh as there is no concept of freshness here. More and more the biggest advantage here is that you can get many contact numbers of Doctors and Engineers if you are willing to get married. You can have water fortunately sometimes and sometimes not.

University or JAIL?

Almost every university has the system of closing their gates just at the off-time. But in Jinnah University, the gate Opens at the Off-time and remains closed during premises. The women students can never needed to off their university before the off-time as they may escape with the strangers for the hangover. They can be anyone for the girl, but for the military guard of JUW they must be their Boyfriends with whom the girls escape out without their parent’s permission. By this strictness the name of Jinnah University has been replaced to Jinnah Jail by the suffering student.

Canteen or Dalton’s?:

The most wanted Cafeteria of the Jinnah University, has been very advanced. Many varieties of food are here now. With which the prices have also been increased. The Rs 10 items are being sold in Rs 12 and so on…
More and more the sitting area is full of cats and birds. Here cat means an animal. Not the girls of Jinnah University.
The empty plates of biryani is recycled with use of cats and again put in the same watery place where it came out from.

No H2O

There are many rich family girls in the Mass com department of this university that is why they have not set up any water cooler in this department as the girls can purchase the water bottles by themselves.

Most COMMON room:

The common room here is so common that anyone is allowed to do anything here. Concisely, whatever is not allowed in the whole university, is allowed here. There is a big dressing table kept  here for the convenience of the girls who regularly do threading, facial, waxing etc. there.

No place for sitting:

There is much empty space here but still no place for sitting. Because there are no benches in the park and no shades above it. Students sit in the park under the teasing rays of summer sunlight. Due to this, all the corridors are filled with rush from the ladies of Jinnah University.

Library or gossip area?:

Usually the library means the place for searching being Silent. But here the library is a place of chattering and whispering which makes other readers disturb. The total of above 10 thousand students has the library 2 computers in it. For which a cold war happens daily to use the single PC for 2 minutes.

Teachers or criminals?:

The above heading does not want to show any misbehave that I am insulting my teachers. But one of the teachers of Mass com department has been ‘wanted’ for whole of the university including staff also as there is no any information and data fed in the history of the University files. The students are facing so problem that they have not been informed with their mid terms marks when their terminals are on their heads.

A Victory through a Loss......

23rd March 2011, was the day when all the anticipation and excitement got started. When Pakistan won its Quarter Final from Zimbabwe and reached to SEMI- FINAL on 30th March 2011, which was from none other than our historical foe, India.

Historically speaking, the Pakistanis can never accept and bear any cricket defeat to India, as the two neighboring states are archrival teams. All Pakistanis including me got surprisingly crazy by hearing this news. TV channels turned to tarot card readers and soothsayers to predict the outcome of the crucial Indo-Pak match.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani announced that all government offices would close at noon that day so that people could watch the Indian and Pakistani teams facing off at Mohali in a game that will showcase one of the world's most intense sporting rivalries. Pakistan was firmly in the grip of cricket fever those days, with people offering special prayers for the success of their national team against arch-rival India in the World Cup semi-final in Mohali. It was declared a FINAL before a FINAL. Across Pakistan, people offered special prayers for the success of the Pakistani team led by Shahid Afridi. Prayers were also organized by the minority Hindu and Sikh communities.

As the ubiquitous talk shows and news channels shifted their focus to the semi-final and the cricket diplomacy initiated by the Prime Ministers of the two countries, tarot card readers, soothsayers and 'malangs' at Sufi shrines were roped in to predict the outcome of the game that is expected to be fiercely contested by the South Asian rivals. In short we all nation were in this thought that "It's time to put the pedal to the metal and counter extremism with culture."

In Lahore, thousands of fans are expected to watch the game on big screens at Gaddafi Stadium. Large screens have also been erected at the sprawling Fatima Jinnah Park and the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad. But how can we Karachians stay behind when all these amusements going all over Pakistan and not in Karachi. Large LED screens were arranged at different elegant places like The Pearl and Beach view. And all other unaffordable fans could also watch it on big screens arranged at different universities, colleges and parks near-by, where entry to these venues will be free.

In all these anticipation, we all cousins also planned to watch it at Beach view. We were very excited to reach there and made our preparation fully enthusiastic by putting on everything Green and White including our dresses and face paintings by drawing our PAK flag on it. We decided to be there an hour before the match starts. The match had to be started at 14:00 PSt and we left home at 12.

The adventure started when we dropped out feet near its gate. There was too much rush out there. Thousands of postulants were seeking to get in with dozens of tickets in their hands but unfortunately the venue was completely full. It was only a wish to accomplish the distance between WE and the Gate. But we did not lose our hopes and decided to wait there till the last hope left.

It was the time the match had to be started and we were still waiting out to accomplish our target. At last we decided to get back from there. When we were thinking for it, suddenly a Loud discord was heard from inside. When investigated, we knew some of the boys messed up being violent and broken the LED screen inside. Everything became a mess at every which way within a moment. We without thinking anymore seek our way back.

After getting finally hopelessness and after wasting our first half of the match by just watching through mobile radio and sms's, we got way back to home side park, where a smaller but big enough screen was set up. All our relatives and family members were enjoying there. We too joined there.

We initially continued watching the second inning when Pak batting started. Prayed, when any player out and shouted with excitement when there was any boundary. The chances were going against Pakistani team, but our hopes were still alive and our belief on prayers was still there till the last ball of the innings.

But We lost........:( with all our hopes..........

It was great upset for me. I ended watching it with shedding buckets of tears and lot of grieves. The upset became more upset when our captain Shahid Afridi apologized to his nation for the great loss.

We prayed, prayed and prayed, but did not realize that DID WE EVER PRAYED REGULARLY WITH THIS DEVOTION BEFORE?

In media words, we lost the match but, in my words we won it leaving deep love and emotions for our Pakistan and our team. This match brought those loving expressions for our country which we had left many years before. This match made us forget all those mishaps from which our nation is been going through. Since before it, our nation only knew how to discourage but the encouragement from the nation even after getting lost, is worthless.

This loss and greatest sorrow taught us that, in Cricket, passion and pressure are two sides of a coin.

MELA IN LADIES PARK

Morning of 26th march 2011, me and my sister were ready for leaving to my uni "Jinnah University" in order to attend "MELA" there.

We were very excited to reach there as me and all my friends had a plan to attend it together. I and my sis reached there at 11 when I saw my other friends standing and waiting for me. There was a huge crowd loaded. I could see many new faces which I never saw in the university before.

We proceed roaming the venue. There were two tents under which were different stalls. We started from the right side stalls where teasing sun rays were peeking through it. Some of our class mates also arranged face painting and game stalls there. My sister and I tried each game by forgetting those rays for which we always had been careful to cover in our unit. But I lost 2 games and she won.

We continued with visiting all other stalls.. where I saw different food stalls, embroided suits, accessories, decoration pieces, cosmetics and many more..all the stuff were very good but, the most common thing in all the products was the they All were very expensive and out of the reach of any middle class student girl, who are majority studying in our University including Me. I personally loved the colorful handwork home decoration items like cushion covers and rugs etc.

The funniest moment was when I saw a yellow boutique suit, which was looking as normal as we all can wear in less formal occasion. When I asked its price, she said it’s of 6000/=. I didn't understand what should I react. I am still pretty sure that its worth could reach more than 1500.
I don't know whether I was the only person over there who did not take any big amount there or there were many more poor like me??? I just thought that the mela is at JINNAH University, not in Pearl continental hotel.

After so many struggles to see and visit each and every stall, I along with my friends took a brunch break and took a junk of our mood, but unfortunately our mood got off after eating hopeless food which we thought should had been tasty. But soon after, a huge group of girls started bhangra n dance below the stage, which became the centre of attention and made us feel enjoyable after some boring happenings before.

All in all, it was great spending time with my friends, as when there are friends; you make your place yourself. We all meet in the University daily but this was a different way as we get this opportunity after 2 years. So it was fun in "MELA"

Fever Of Getting 20 Marks!!

After 2 months of beginning of every new semester, we, the students of JUW get a smaal time fever of getting 20 marks in Mid terms. Its not that we are hard working Brilliant students, but it is Unfortunately an issue of atleast getting 20 marks initially, a support to achieve better marks in terminals actually.

With the starting of the season of Exams, every girl would be seen discussing about important topics and questions of their courses, instead of talking about Shahrukh, Salman and Katrina.

All the students started getting worried about their notes and handouts. And this is the best time to judge you friends as well. Its the basic issue of the students for getting worried on, before exams."Oh God! I dont have the notes of Miss Tooba. What shall i do now? Only 2 days left in paper! Good God, please help. Can I borrow your notes please? I'll give it back to you in the off time." These are the words you can hear by any student with the difference of the name of a teacher.

Because of these problems, too much rush got started at the Photostat shop in JUW. After so many struggle and hurdles, most of the students decide to do it from the shops near-by their homes.

The another most exciting fact about the Mid terms, that pupil who do not ever take classes around whole semester, incidently take before exams, just to let themselves know what might come in the paper or which is the most important question to have chance to come in the paper.

Any how, midterms of semester 2011 had started with the start of the month of March. All of us were very confident about the exam as me and my friends were well-prepared.

BUT, the most terrible job I had also done in my paper of "theories of communication", I did 1 whole question wrong! Instead of writing 'Kinds of theory', I had written 'Eras of theory'. I came out of the examination hall very confidently. After knowing from my friends, I realized that How could I do a Blunder! I was hating myself. But after sometime I came to know that two of my friends also did the same thing. I got a little relief that I was not the only girl who did that horrible mistake.

Any way, exams were over in a week. And thank God I didn't do any other same kind of mistake in other subjects. But a human is taught by his own mistakes. Similarly I was. We can have a chance to overcome our mistake in Midterms, but not in terminals. For that I pray to Allah that I do not repeat my mistake next time.

come connect ! All MassCom girls..

ring ringgg...ring ringg...An alarm of 8 am made me awake which made my stomach abnormal due to nervousness to perform in Our Uni event "COME CONNECT". i got up with no tension of time as i had to reach the venue "jhumar lawn" at 11, which is of 2-3 minutes of ride from my home.

I took bath , breakfast and got to iron my dress, when i got a serious Shock! No not an electric one but More than that! As i plugged on the iron, the electricity went off. I thought its a regular loadshedding for An hour. May be the time got changed today. I waited for an hour.

Slowly and gradually the time passed and passed and there was no light till 11. That time i seriously got worried. I complained in KESC office two times, and at the third time i got to know that due to some technical problem, the light would be available at 4. that was a big ever shock for me. Many horror assumptions started covering my mind. What about my dance performance? What would my group friends say if i couldn't reach there? God, please help me out. And for sometime i got totally blank.

But when no one is there, your mother is there. Offcourse, Mother is always the medicine of any pain. Same as my mom. She gave me an idea to go at my aunt's place living in Gulberg to iron my dress and continue to go at the event. But i didn't listen her and went at another aunt who lives in Shadmaan.

I quickly went off along with my dad and all my jewelley and make up stuff to my aunt's home. What i saw there, that there was no electricity too. Huh! On that moment i realized why i didn't listen to my mom and argued with her. Last effort was left which i did. I tied up the iron wire and put it on the slowly burning stove and pressed the dress.

It was 12 now. I quickly put on my suit and did make over myself and went off to the venue. It was 12:30 when i reached there. And according to the given time, the gate had to be locked at 12 noon sharp. Our organizer and our CR, Qirat, made me enter the lawn. I rushed in and immediately went in the dressing room where i took a deep breath.

The program had started. I joined the program with my class mates. According to the planned sequence, in the 1st part of the program there were 1st year's performances, then 2nd year, then we, 3rd year had to perform. All the performances of 1st and 2nd year were very good. We enjoyed all the dramas and dances. The performances of 1st and 2nd year were last at 3.

At 3, lunch was served. There was too much rush at the lunch time. There were 3 dishes. But unfortunately,I could only taste singapuri rice.

After lunch, around at 4, finally, it’s our turn to rock the stage. Our beautiful hosts, Zahra Jabeen and Madiha Wahid, gave a smart trailer of beginning. And we burnt the stage. All the dramas, dance and mimickries were awesome. We showed our each talent there which was most appreciating and mature. An awards ceremony was also included in our skits in which we gave awards to our teachers by mimicking them on some of their habitual acts.

At last, it’s the time came when our hosts announced about our dance performance. My hands got so cold in nervousness, but I recite durud shareef and put my first step along with my group dancers on the stage. Just after 2 minutes 50 seconds, I got my senses back and saw everybody clapping and shouting. Everybody was so happy. Finally I did my best on the stage. I was so glad to see every one appreciating me on my performance. I took a deep breath and thanked to Allah Almighty for helping me throughout the day.

It was 5:30 eve now. It was time to go back home. Everybody was very happy being united in “Come Connect”. Everyone was thanked to Qirat, who made a very hard effort of organizing such a blasting event.

Mr. Owais Mangalwala gave a detailed lecture on the importance and concept of Citizen Journalism that It is Journalism in real terms but on a common man's level.

On giving us the ideas of how to become a Citizen Journalist, he said, "We all go through different experiences everyday and everyone of us holds a unique solution of every problem. We appreciate people to share unique experiences from their surroundings from where, the lens of camera can not reach".

In this regards Dawn News promotes citizens and specially students of Mass communication to report the  unique and unusual events in our circle and get Dawn News as a platform to express them to everyone. As we all have the right to show our thoughts and ideas, DAWN news is providing us an official platform with a name of "Citizen Journalism" where we not only can show our experiences, but also can get chance to be invited in the Show as a reward.

Mr Owais emphasized to differentiate between News and Noise while reporting  and told some main points to be focused by Citizen Journalist.
